NEW MUSIC: "Faded City" Out Now!
Tape Slam's new single is live on Bandcamp today and hits streamers next Friday
Hi friends,
Interrupting your regularly scheduled programming with an exciting Tape Slam update!
“Faded City,” the first single from the six-song EP we recorded last fall in Denton, Texas, is available now on Bandcamp, and will be hitting streaming services on Friday, April 12. (Sorry, Neil Young!) Why not go give Tape Slam a follow on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or your streaming platform of choice?
Written during the pandemic, “Faded City” is a song about looking back with mixed feelings at youth, lost innocence, and a disappearing landscape filled with promise and mystery and terrible beauty. At the risk of comparing it to an objectively better song, it’s got a bit of a “Walk on the Wild Side” thing going on, musically speaking, but with some Texas twang courtesy of guest vocalist Jessa Lussier, a.k.a. Lady Wail. Rounding out the lineup are the Rock Philosopher himself, Dave Crimaldi, on drums, and the multitalented Killian Smith on bass, Moog, and—wait for it—clarinet!

On April 13, we’ll be performing this song and a bunch of others, old and new, at the Bearded Monk in Denton as part of Noise Market, the DIY festival that Dave has brought into existence through sheer ornery willpower and perseverance. If that’s outside your geographical orbit, watch this space, as we absolutely intend to take this show on the road—or at least to the New York metropolitan area—later this year. In future updates, I’ll also supply the full, bizarre (and bizarrely life-affirming?) story of how Dave and I reconnected three decades after playing together in a band as high-school kids.
Again, you can hear, and buy, “Faded City” on Bandcamp today. And it’ll be on all relevant streaming services on April 12. Woohoo!
I love it!
My favorite Tape Slam song yet. Can't wait to hear the rest of the EP.
What I really need to know is why there is a hyphen in "high-schools kids". Or were we school kids that were high? 😂
